Requirements and Documentation Needed

1. Quick Overview (What This Is & Why It Matters)  

Submitting the correct documentation ensures that your designation application is processed efficiently and without delay. Each CIBA designation has specific qualification, experience, and compliance requirements. 

By preparing the correct documentation, you: 

  • Ensure compliance with SAQA and CIBA professional standards. 

  • Avoid delays in your application process. 

  • Strengthen your eligibility for higher designations.


    CIBA offers a range of professional designations that recognise competence, integrity, and ongoing professional development across all levels of business and finance. 
    Each designation reflects your academic achievements, practical experience, and commitment to ethical and professional standards

    Members may qualify for a designation through one of the following routes: 

    • Standard Route: For applicants meeting full qualification and experience criteria as outlined for each designation. 

    • Transfer Route: For members transferring from other professional bodies 

    • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): For professionals with relevant experience and learning achieved outside formal qualifications. 

    • Qualifier Route: For applicants meeting partial qualification requirements  

     

    Chartered Bookkeeper (CBK) 

    For professionals managing bookkeeping and basic accounting functions. 
    Requirements: Matric (NQF 4 or higher) and at least 12 months of relevant experience. 

     

    Chartered Financial Administrator (CFA) 

    For individuals providing administrative and financial support within organisations. 
    Requirements: National Diploma or Degree (NQF 5 or higher) and a minimum of 18 months of relevant experience. 

     

    Chartered Business Accountant in Commerce – CBAC 

    For professionals working in finance departments or commercial environments. 
    Requirements: National Diploma or Degree (NQF 6 or higher) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. 

     

    Chartered Business Accountant in Practice – CBAP 

    For accountants delivering accounting and tax services within professional practice environments. 
    Requirements: Commerce-based qualification (NQF 7 or higher) including Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Management Accounting, and Corporate Law, with 3–4 years of relevant experience. 

     

    Chartered Financial Manager (CFM) 

    For finance professionals managing operational or strategic financial functions. 
    Requirements: BCom Honours, CTA, or Advanced Diploma (NQF 8 or higher) and relevant managerial experience. 

     

    Chartered Chief Financial Officer (CCFO) 

    For senior finance executives and business leaders responsible for financial strategy, governance, and corporate performance. 
    Requirements: Postgraduate qualification (NQF 9 or higher, e.g., MBA, MCom, or CTA) and 8–10 years of senior finance experience. 

     

    Supporting Documents 

    Applicants are required to upload certified copies of the following (where applicable): 

    • ID and qualifications 

    • Academic transcript 

    • Updated CV 

    • Competency Framework 

    • Marriage certificate (if applicable) 

    • Employer confirmation for senior-level designations 

2. Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Review the requirements for your intended designation below. 

2. Ensure your qualifications and experience match the designation criteria. 

3. Prepare certified copies of all required documents (certified within the last 3 months). 

4. Confirm that your CIBA membership is active and your CPDs are up to date. 

5. Log in to your profile at https://accounts.myciba.org and upload the required documents under 'My Applications'. 

6. Click 'Submit' to finalise your application once all documents are uploaded. 

3. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting uncertified or expired documents  
    → Ensure certification is within the last 3 months. 

  • Missing critical documents  
    → Review the checklist carefully before submitting. 

  • Not meeting qualification or experience levels  
    → Check eligibility for the specific designation. 

  • Incomplete Competency Framework  
    → Must be completed and signed. 

  • Applying while non-compliant  
    → membership fees and declarations must be up to date
