Raise concerns the right way. Step-by-step guide on how to lodge a complaint against a CIBA member or the institute.

Reporting an Ethics Concern

1. Quick Overview (What This Is & Why It Matters)

CIBA takes ethics seriously. Members are held to strict professional and ethical standards, and breaches can undermine public trust and the credibility of the profession. Reporting an ethics concern helps CIBA maintain integrity, accountability, and compliance with its disciplinary framework, protecting both members and the public.

2. Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Identify the issue clearly, determine if the concern relates to unethical conduct, dishonesty, or a breach of professional standards.

  • Attempt direct resolution if appropriate (for minor misunderstandings or service issues).

  • If unresolved or serious, go to the CIBA Ethics Concern Form to report the issue.

  • Provide full details of the incident, including dates, names, and specific actions or behaviours of concern.

  • Upload supporting documents (emails, correspondence, or proof of misconduct).

  • Submit your report , CIBA’s Legal and Ethics Department will review it confidentially.

  • If the matter meets disciplinary thresholds, it will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

4. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting vague reports
→ Include clear facts, names, and timelines.

  • Withholding evidence
→ Always attach supporting documentation for credibility.

  • Using the complaint form for fee disputes or service issues
→ Only use this channel for ethical or professional conduct concerns.

  • Expecting compensation
→ CIBA’s role is disciplinary, not financial; seek legal advice for damages or refunds

  • The name and membership number of the member or firm (if known).
