NPO Assist · For CIBA accountants

NPOs are looking for accountants. Make sure they find you.

Every registered NPO needs an accounting officer's report each year, and thousands are behind with DSD. NPOs use Find a Business Accountant on myciba.org to find CIBA accountants. List your services there.

What is NPO Assist?

NPO Assist is CIBA's programme that helps non-profit organisations find CIBA accountants. We started it when the Department of Social Development began removing NPOs that had not filed their annual reports. In February 2025 the Department said 203,279 organisations were non-compliant. Since 15 October 2026, every NPO report goes through DSD's new NPO Online Platform, and many NPOs need help to get there.

1

An NPO checks itself

It does the 2-minute check on myciba.org and sees which reports it still owes DSD.

2

It finds you

It searches Find a Business Accountant and contacts you directly.

3

You agree the work

You agree the scope and fee with the NPO and use CIBA's NPO templates to get its reports ready.

4

You keep the client

Next year it needs an accounting officer's report again, and you are the accountant it already knows.

Get listed in three steps

  1. Log in to your CIBA member profile.
  2. Open Find a Business Accountant and opt in to the public directory.
  3. Tick the services you offer NPOs.
Who may act as an NPO's accounting officer? CIBA is one of the professional bodies empowered by CIPC under section 60 of the Close Corporations Act to register accounting officers. The NPO Act adopts that definition, so CIBA members who hold the BAP or CBAP designation may act as accounting officers for NPOs.

Templates ready

Use CIBA's working papers, engagement letter and representation letter for NPO engagements.

Your client, your terms

The engagement is between you and the NPO. CIBA is not part of it.

Work that repeats

Annual reports are due within nine months of every year-end, so a compliant NPO can be a client every year.
