If you are a member of an accredited professional accountancy body you may qualify for exemptions.

How it works

If you apply for a designation, you may also be eligible to apply for exemptions from one or more of our qualification or experience requirements. Successful exemption will provide you with credits towards your initial application and membership fee.

Professional qualifications/designations

For professional qualifications/designations, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) exemptions and credits are normally dependent upon membership and/or completion of specified papers.

CIBA may from time to time vary its RPL exemptions and credits for persons registering with prior professional qualifications or designations.

The following professional qualifications/designations are currently eligible for exemptions and fee credits:

ICBA Members Joining CIBA

ICBA members who join CIBA before 31 December 2021 will receive 100% exemption on Associate membership fees provided that they submit their 2021 ICBA membership certificate or letter of good standing upon application.

All ICBA members who are interested in obtaining a designation with CIBA will receive a 50% discount upon designation approval as indicated below.

Application process

To apply for exemptions and credits, please complete the Recognition of Prior Learning and Fee Credit – Professional Qualification Application Form.

If your professional qualification/designation is not listed, please contact us and apply for special recognition or get your professional body to contact us so that we may discuss possible exemptions.

Once you have completed the Recognition of Prior Learning and Fee Credit – Professional Qualification Application Form, you will need to send evidence of:

  • Submit proof of:
    • Certified copies of your professional qualification
    • Certified copies of your professional designation (full membership)
    • Certified copies of your ID
    • Original letter of good standing as a full member of your existing institute
    • Commitment to adhere to the CIBA Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct, and Disciplinary procedures.
  • Once you have been granted exemption, fee credits, and settled your amount due, you will receive your membership certificate.
  • Good quality copies or scanned versions may be used, but CIBA reserves the right to ask for additional verification/alternative documents.
  • We do not accept screenshots of web notification pages or similar electronic notifications.
