To be eligible for appointment as a Designation Assessor, the following minimum requirements must be met:

Knowledge and qualifications

  • Possess an academic qualification at the same level or higher than the designation requirements they will assess.
  • Familiarity with the SAIBA Admission Criteria for SAIBA Designations, including Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) routes to designations.

Experience

  • Demonstrate experience at a higher level than the designation requirements they will assess.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • Comply with CPD requirements to ensure they remain up to date in their field of expertise.

Skills

  • Possess planning, administration, and management skills necessary for the evaluation process. Proficiency in the English language, with knowledge of additional languages being advantageous.

Professional standing

  • Be a member in good standing of a professional body with a designation equal to or higher than the designation they will assess.

Assessment expertise

  • Complete relevant assessor training and demonstrate competence through the submission of a portfolio of evidence. For assessors conducting assessments in registered learnerships, completion of the generic Assessor Unit Standard (Unit Standard 115753 – Conduct outcomes-based assessment) is required.

Authorisation

  • Authozised by the SAIBA Education Committee (EDCOM) to conduct assessments on their behalf. Appointment as an assessor must be approved by EDCOM.

Interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to establish a trusting relationship with candidates. Fairness, integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to the principles of a good assessment are essential.

Assessment completion

  • Conduct assessments in accordance with specified procedures, admission criteria, and timeframes.

Assessment report

  • Submit a standardized assessment report within the specified timeframe, detailing the outcome of the application.

Meeting attendance

  • Attend scheduled meetings as required by SAIBA.

Voluntary removal

  • Assessors may request removal from the register by submitting a written request with one month's notice.

SAIBA removal

  • Assessors may be removed by SAIBA for failing to meet required duties and responsibilities. Reasons for removal will be provided by SAIBA.
