This course will equip you to start your bookkeeping practice or apply for bookkeeping jobs. The course of offered by UNISA with the Chartered Institute for Business Accountants (CIBA) providing part accreditation for the professional designation BA(SA). This is a distance learning program supported by an online learning platform. This approach allows busy professionals to maintain a work-life balance while completing the course. Course Accreditation
NQF level 5 with UNISA as the accrediting institution. Certificate issued by UNISA once you have successfully completed the course. The course is developed and presented by UNISA, CIBA provides additional support to the students through its CPD partner SA Accounting Academy. Online contact sessions and webinars, thereby significantly increasing the pass rate of students.

Admission Requirements
Senior certificate, or an equivalent NQF 4 qualification.
Course Content
The content is divided into manageable topics. A student number is issued to you by UNISA once registration and first payment is received. Thereafter you will receive access to your online study room providing access through AcademyOne to multi-media lectures, quizzes and further study material linked to each topic. The course instructor will provide you with academic support through the online discussion forum for the duration of the course.
Language
Study material will be in English. Students may however communicate and answer the assignments and examination in either English or Afrikaans.
Course Duration
1 year course combining both distance learning and online training. Available throughout South Africa.
Course Delivery
This course will be taught by means of:
- UNISA study guide, tutorial letters, assignments, telephone support, and MYUNISA
- AcademyOne online tutorial videos and lecture support. AcademyOne provides a state of the art e-learning platform. Each student will gain access to their own online study room to weekly video tutorial, downloadable PDF course notes and online discussion forum.
Assessment And Award Of The Certificate
Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies. The course comprises two semester modules:
- Introductory Bookkeeping and Reporting (FUAC02F) and
- Intermediate Bookkeeping and Reporting (FUAC03G). FUAC02F is a prerequisite for FUAC03G.
- The assessment intervention for each module comprises two assignments.
