Step-by-step guide to upgrading or changing your membership level to match your qualifications and professional experience.

1. How to Upgrade or Change Your Membership

2. Quick Overview

Upgrading your membership allows you to progress through the professional designations offered by CIBA (e.g., CBKCFAdminCBAC → CBAP→ CFMC→CCFO ).
This ensures:

  • Recognition of your advanced skills and experience.

  • Eligibility for additional benefits such as Practice Licences, Tax Practitioner registration, and independent review authority

  • Compliance with CIBA’s professional body recognition requirements under SAQA.

3. Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log into your CIBA profile via the Member Portal

  2. Navigate to “My Applications → Apply for Designation.”

  3. Select the designation you want to apply for (e.g., CBAC, CBAP, CCFO).

  4. Pay the Designation fee online.

  5. Complete the online application form

  6. Upload required documents:

    • Updated CV

    • Certified copies of qualifications

    • Academic Record

    • Employer Reference Letter

    • Competency Framework Form

    • Submit your application for assessment.

  7. Wait for notification from CIBA, applications are reviewed by the Membership Administrator and Team Leader

  8. Once approved, your new designation will reflect on your profile and certificate.

4. What You’ll Need

  • CIBA login credentials.

  • Updated CV

  • Certified qualifications

  • Academic records(relevant to the designation you’re applying for).

  • Work experience evidence (employment letter, or logbook).

  • Payment method for the Designation fee

  • Be in Good Standing (renewals, CPD, and Annual Declaration up to date).

5. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying while not in Good Standing.
First clear invoices, update CPD, and submit your Annual Declaration.

  •  Not uploading all required documents.
Submit CV, certified qualifications, and work experience proof together.

  •  Confusing “conversion” with “upgrade.”
Upgrading is moving to a higher designation; converting (e.g., to Chartered) is a separate process with its own criteria.

  •  Using uncertified or outdated qualifications.
Ensure all academic documents are updated, certified and valid.
